Master's in Science - Nursing

A 2-year program offered at Padmashree College of Nursing, affiliated to Rajiv Gandhi University of Health Sciences, that prepare the student to practice across all health care settings. The course of study combines the theory and the practice of nursing, with general education in the humanities and behavioral, biological, and physical sciences. These serve as a core for the development of the nursing major.

The M.Sc. Nursing program offers students experience in major settings where health care is delivered. Master's Degree in nursing program prepares you for leadership, management and more independent roles, such as clinical nurse specialist, nurse practitioner, educator and researcher. The Indian Nursing Council and Karnataka Nursing Council recognize this course offered at Padmashree.

As a M.Sc. Nursing graduate, you have the great opportunity for advancement as the students develop Leadership qualities, to function effectively as educators and administrators and the programme emphasizes application of relevant theories into nursing practice, adminstration and development of research skillls. The programme helps the graduates in Developing their teaching abilities and skill in coordinating or organizing health care programs and other inservice education programs. The programme provides a basis for post masteral programme (MPhil, Ph D) in nursing.

 

Purpose:

The goal of M.Sc. Nursing programme is to prepare nurses who are able function efficiently and effectively, as a member of health care team and who is qualified to meet the nursing needs of the people in the society. The nurse is competent to practice in the home, hospital outpatient clinic, work place, school and community. The programme provides a basis for further development and continued learning of the graduate.

Msc Nursing program prepares nurses to function in super speciality areas. After MSc nursing academic opportunities are also great. They can take up more independent roles as nurse educator, clinical nurse specialist, nurse practitioner, and researcher. M.Sc. Nursing is preferred and often required for military nursing, case management, public health nursing, overseas / development nursing, Forensic nursing and School nursing. The Msc nursing graduates are getting an opportunity to work as Nurse Supervisor, Nurse Counsellors, Clinical Researcher in¬†Speciality Hospitals, and as Nurse Educators In Clinical Set Up. Post Graduates are even getting an opportunity to work as¬†IELTS TEACHERS if they have cleared CGFNS or IELTS based on their command on the language. INC (Indian nursing¬†council) is now initiating a new career option in nursing ‚ÄúIndependent Nurse Practitioner‚ÄĚ which demands only postgraduate¬†nurses.

National services Scheme is an innovative and powerful experiment in strengthening the students aspirations. It inculcates the spirit of voluntary work among the students and teachers through sustained community interactions. It brings our academic institutions closer to society.

Activities :

  • Mass health education programwas conducted by our IV year Bsc Nsg Students on 22nd July 2011 at Tavarakere PHC for 100 antenatal mothers on antenatal care and immunization. Students participated with the block health officers of the village in conducting the campaign on prevention of malaria.

     

  • Final year students participated in school health camp at Hommagatta on 11th June 2011 and also participated in¬†World Leprosy Day Quiz Programme¬†and won prize at Sumanahalli Townhall, Bangalore.

 

  • Final year students participated in Gandhi Square on occasion of Gandhi Jayanthi on 2nd Oct 2011, Bangalore & conducted rally, press meet- spoken about the¬†ill effects of alcoholism¬†to media.

 

  • World surrogacy day had been celebrated by conducting a poster presentation regarding ‚Äė‚ÄôSurrogacy and its Issues‚Äô¬†on 04.11.2011.¬†

 

  • Participated in poster making and food preparation with a theme ‚ÄúEgg As A Low Cost Nutrition‚Ä̬†in Bakery Training Unit, Hebbal on 18.11.2011. Our III students won Second prize in competition.

 

  • World diabetes prevention day has been celebrated (WAR on diabetes) on 25.11.2011.

 

  • Our volunteers participated in¬†Red Ribbon Express¬†organised by government of India. In our institution¬†World Aids Day¬†on 01.12.2011 by performing a Role play on Aids and organised a rally from Nagarbhavi to Majestic in Bangalore.

 

  • In Feb and March 2012, our students participated in¬†Pulse Polio Program¬†in Chandra lay out and Malleshwaram, Bangalore.

 

  • April 7th¬†2012¬†World Health Day¬†was celebrated by an innovative presentation by our H.O.D‚Äôs¬† and Faculty members on the theme¬†‚Äú Closing The Gap From Evidence To Action ‚ÄĚ.

 

Red Cross

Programme Officer: Mr. Channabasappa K M,  Lecturer

The Red Cross is a non political, non official international Humanitarian Organization devoted to the service of mankind for peace. We are proud to say that our college is one of the member of organization & contributing to major activities of it.  At present 580 students are enrolled in the youth red cross.

Activities:

  • Volunteers of Youth Red Cross Society of our college conducted mental health awareness program at spandana hospital, Bangalore.¬†
  • Organized and participated in Health camp in Ramasandra, Kenchenpura, Sulikere. This programme incorporated with Youth Red Cross society Various Health team Members.
  • Youth Red Cross programme officer of our college attended one day training programme in Red Cross Bhavan Bangalore.

Future plans:

  • To encourage students to participate in Health awareness programmes.
  • To motivate students to conduct various Red Cross programmes in the community.
  • To celebrate national youth day in our campus.

 

Sports and Culturals

Our students are encouraged to participate in collegiate, intercollegiate sports conducted by RGUHS and other institutions.

Padmashree group of institutions conducted annual sports and cultural meet (Padmotsav 2012) from26th to 30th January 2012.  Our Students participated and won many prizes.

 

  • Lakshmi R Thampi of final year student bagged 4 medals for first place, 2 medals ¬†for second place¬† and she also received a¬†best athlete¬†award for this year.¬† Ms. Rashida of 4th¬†year bagged 3 medals for first and 2 for second place.
  • Our institution stood second position in overall championship in sports events.

Events conducted:

  • Our students participated in Inter college cultural competition held in SJB college of Nursing on 28th May 2011 organised by Karanataka SNA cultural meet.
  • In Feb 2012, Padmashree group of institutions conducted ‚ÄúPadmotsav 2012‚ÄĚ. Our students participated in various events and won prizes in different events like Song, Dance, Skits, Vegetable Carving, Rangoli and Mehandi competitions.¬†
